lymphatic health

i know, i know. the title of this post does not sound too exciting... it even sounds a little gross. but i love knowing as much as i can about staying healthy & lymphatic health is something i have been very interested in lately & i want to share all of the knowledge i can with you all!

every time i take a shower i always try to wash starting at my feet & hands and going up my limbs because i've heard that it helps your lymph nodes to drain properly, encouraging your body to stay a bit healthier than it would otherwise.

about a week ago, heidi montag tweeted that she was getting a lymphatic massage to help her body heal from the multitudes of plastic surgeries she underwent... ever since then i've been thinking more about lymphatic massage & wondering what it really does & how i can take care of it myself.

so.... i did some research online & found out just the information i was looking for!

  • lymph nodes are located all over the body (tonsils, spleen & adenoids are just a few)
  • they are filled with fluid which travels all through the body clearing away toxins, dead cells and bacteria like illness & viruses
  • lymphatic massage helps to stimulate drainage of the lymph nodes & production of immune-aiding fluids & cells
  • lymphatic massage is best done at times of year when illness is a greater threat & at times when your body needs an immunity boost such as after surgery
  • swelling of the lymph nodes can occur when the body's immune system is in over-drive. this is called lymph-edema.
  • lymphatic massage can easily be done on your own!

i found a simple description of at-home lymphatic massage that can be done in the shower or bath. the author suggests you use a soapy sponge & that you do 5-10 strokes over the area. i think a loofah or your hand with some yummy scrub would work just fine... and would kill 2 birds with one stone! it would even work with moisturizer or body lotion after you get out of the shower.. just use the same massage technique. be sure to use a light touch- it is not necessary to press hard as lymph nodes are located close to the skin.

  • start by sponging down your neck to your collarbones. then move down your chest and sponge your pectorals in opposite circular motions
  • next move down to your abdomen and sponge in clockwise circular motions
  • for your legs and thighs- start by sponging from your feet to your hips in light upward strokes. then, spend several minutes making clockwise circles on your thighs and up your bum and hips
  • for your arms- stroke from your hands up to your shoulders and make several clockwise circles around your triceps

my suggestion would be to get in the habit of using these motions on a daily basis.. or even just a few times a week when using a body scrub. the way i see it is.. if you can do something small to help your body you should!

hello everyone

as you all may have noticed, i have been extremely MIA on youtube & my blog. this was due to a lot of things happening in my personal life such as graduating from college (YAY!) among other things. since graduation i have been taking it easy for the first time in nearly 4 years and my own personal, positive thoughts are finally flowing freely again.

so i thought i would make a little post just letting you all know that... you have not been forgotten... you are not being ignored... i am always around checking all of my comments, replying & answering questions and i am always on twitter! follow me~ misslexiet

i hope you are all still interested in my videos, blogs & tweets. i have lots of randomness that i love to share with other like-minded people and there is so much to chat about....

i will be posting more on this blog very soon & hopefully very frequently. please be sure to check back & if you follow me on twitter i will let you know when i have posted something new!
